Our History
Energy Speaker Systems has a long history of research and development in acoustics, speaker engineering and manufacturing for over 30 years. The philosophy of design behind every Energy product has its foundation in our pioneering study with the Canadian National Research Council (NRC) almost 20 years ago. This study consisted of a number of groundbreaking listening and measuring procedures that pointed to conclusions focusing on the three major parameters of loudspeaker performance:
1982 | Energy Pro22 Series This series was an absolute breakthrough in sonic performance. Featuring the "million-dollar" Dual Hyperdome Tweeter, the Pro 22 Series was engineered to better handle high and middle frequencies while eliminating resonance. Later that year, the Energy 22 was selected to be the Reference model for the NRC and the CBC. | 1991 | Energy ECC-1 Energy launches North America's first center channel. | 1993 | Energy Veritas V2.8 With the philosophy of designing a speaker system that completely improved on the success of the 22 Series in mind, Energy spent years researching, testing and measuring, and exceeded all of its goals with the launch of the flagship Energy Veritas V2.8. Understanding that mid and high range frequencies shared very similar acoustic qualities, Energy united the tweeter and mid-range driver into one, separately-chambered Convergent Source Module (CSM), which performs as though it were a single point source. As well, instead of one massive woofer, Energy instead opted for two smaller bass drivers that would act in unison to improve wide and constant dispersion. Finally, the system's three crossovers insure smooth transition and excellent dispersion properties. | 1993 | Connoisseur Series Another performance milestone in a speaker system from Energy. Incorporating more Energy proprietary technological discoveries, new SpherexTM baffles and materials with better damping and rigidity properties, Connoisseur speakers featured a Quasi 3-Way Tapered Crossover, whose lower crossover properties helped provide a smooth power response and wider overall dispersion. For improved bass performance, the Connoisseur featured the Symmetrical T-Pole, which provided a symmetrical field within the magnetic gap. Also, copper coil was wound around the pole, which reduced distortion providing more accurate bass from low to high input levels. | 1997 | Take 5 The Take 5 Home Theater System was launched. Regarded as "the best sounding under-$1,000 home theater system I have heard to date" by Stereo Review, the Take 5 system collects over 20 awards in a span of 3 years. | 2000 | New Veritas The redesigned Veritas Series represented the latest evolution of the Energy design philosophy and contained a multitude of technological advances with sonic benefits that were simply not available to listeners until then. Absolutely every piece of material or technology that was found in the Veritas speaker system had the distinct purpose relating to the Energy design philosophy. From the dual voice coil, to the revolutionary "flat facet" cone design, the Convergent Source Module to the phase plug and pole piece. The result was the construction of the most accurate speaker system performance yet created by Energy. | 2002 | Veritas i series and a redesigned Connoisseur series 2002 was an incredible year for Energy speakers, as two incredibly potent series were updated. The Connoisseur series received a complete makeover, featuring many technological and material improvements. One piece basket frames, made of SpherexTM were molded to create the front panel of the speaker, which housed the drivers, creating an incredibly stiff enclosure. The Veritas i series was also redesigned, featuring improved cosmetics through a one piece grill, a revolutionary surround and all new woofer design, creating even greater performance than the previous generation of Veritas products. | 2004 | act6 system, new Take Series and all new subwoofers With the invention of the Ribbed Elliptical Surround, Energy created a quantum leap for driver performance. This translated into a woofer so powerful, it had to be used in all new Energy products. The results were the creating of the act6 system and Take Series, which use aluminum enclosures and feature Connoisseur technology, in high style compact speakers. The new Energy subwoofers also use this revolutionary technology, pushing the performance envelope for subwoofer design to all new levels. 2006 | Reference Connoisseur Series and C-Series 2006 was a monumental year for Energy, as two completely new series were introduced. Both the Reference Connoisseur and C-Series offered exceptional value and performance, from within wood cabinet speakers. The Reference Connoisseur Series saw the introduction of the RC-Mini and RC-Mini Center, two products that are poised to redefine the market. |
We at Energy are constantly working on designing new and improved speakers. As such, our engineers and designers are diligently working to better reproduce sound in the most realistic manner possible. Only years of expertise and the best measuring and testing equipment allow us to further push the boundaries of sound reproduction.
