Energy®Adds Super-Compact Subwoofers to ESW line
New ESW-M8 and ESW-M6 offer big bass performance from small cabinets
INDIANAPOLIS, IND (August 4, 2008)—Home theater fans and music lovers can now experience big bass performance from the Energy brand's two new amazingly compact subwoofers featuring proprietary technologies.
According to Energy product manager Ben Burko, the new subwoofers/ small size is deceptive: "Even with the incredibly compact size of the woofers and passive radiators, the deep bass sound from both of the new ESW subwoofers is comparable to much larger units. Plus, they provide placement options that we've never offered before."
The high-output models feature black anodized aluminum cone woofers and dual passive radiators. These light, rigid cones provide tight bass response and dissipate both driver and amplifier heat. Much of the added performance comes from Energy's Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds. This technology allows the drivers to perform with lower distortion and greater output, compared to the traditional half-roll surrounds that most subwoofers offer. Additional benefits include increased excursion and larger piston area, allowing for greater efficiency.
The ESW-M8 employs an 8-inch woofer and two 8-inch passive radiators, while the ESW-M6 has a 6.5-inch woofer and 6.5-inch dual passive radiators. The ESW-M8 has a new, efficient digital amplifier rated at 1200 watts and the ESW-M6 delivers 800 watts. Proprietary protection circuits on both models prevent overdriving, which can cause distortion.
The furniture-grade high gloss black finish on the MDF cabinets comes from seven layers of polyurethane, each hand-sanded to achieve exceptional shine and durability. As a result, these subwoofers give owners the option of placing them discreetly away from view, or proudly displaying their quality craftsmanship.
Both subwoofers also feature line and sub inputs and a 50Hz–200Hz variable low-pass filter with bypass mode, to allow blending using the built-in crossover or a home theater receiver.
A 0 to 360-degree variable phase control lets you integrate either subwoofer with other speakers. The "auto power" feature turns the subwoofers on or off automatically, based on the presence of bass signals in the soundtrack.
Scheduled for release in October, the Energy ESW-M8 and ESW-M6 subwoofers will be available through select specialty retailers and sold at U.S. MSRPs of $800* and $600*, respectively.
